But ordinary working people do not run the show.  More and more, our world is dominated by a small group of extremely wealthy individuals who control the big corporations and the government and impose their values of  competition and greed on the rest of us. Capitalism, like communism, is incompatible with real democracy. 

We need a revolution to defeat this undemocratic elite and build a better society. Revolution is possible because people are already trying to change the world when they defend and promote their values in their everyday lives. The constant effort of ordinary people to do the right thing - to stick together, to share what they have, to listen to and help others, in spite of the persistent  messages of capitalism to just "look out for number one,"  is the realistic foundation for a new world. The logic of extending this effort to all of society is revolution. This is the struggle which will define the 21st century and inspire hope of a better future around the globe.

After the leak of the Downing Street memo, the smoke has been wafting through the air from the barrel of the proverbial incriminating gun obliterating any remaining doubts that President Bush committed premeditated murder. The contents of the Downing Street memo should squelch all doubts about whether President Bush was determined to go to war against Iraq now that the highest members of the British government have acknowledged the authenticity of the memo although the debate over its content rages on. There is nothing shocking or surprising about the contents of the "Downing Street memo". That is not to say that it doesn't reveal that President Bush was planning to execute a plan for regime change long before his administration undertook any thoughtful analysis based on accurate intelligence. My contention is that President Bush's conduct is not an aberration but part of a foreign policy paradigm which applies to the conduct of all presidents at least since World War II

As the 9/11 attacks are taking place, a large military training exercise called Global Guardian is said to be “in full swing.” It has been going on since the previous week. [Omaha World-Herald, 2/27/02; Omaha World-Herald, 9/10/02] Global Guardian is an annual exercise sponsored by US Strategic Command (Stratcom) in cooperation with US Space Command and NORAD. One military author defines Stratcom as “the single US military command responsible for the day-to-day readiness of America's nuclear forces.” [Arkin, 2005, pp 59] Global Guardian is a global readiness exercise involving all Stratcom forces and aims to test Stratcom's ability to fight a nuclear war. It is one of many “practice Armageddons” that the US military routinely stages. [Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, 11/12/97; Associated Press, 2/21/02 (B); Omaha World-Herald, 2/27/02; Omaha World-Herald, 9/10/02] It links with a number of other military exercises, including Crown Vigilance (an Air Combat Command exercise), Apollo Guardian (a US Space Command exercise), and NORAD exercises Vigilant Guardian and Amalgam Warrior [Defense Department, 5/97; GlobalSecurity [.org], 10/10/02] Global Guardian is both a command post and field training exercise, and is based around a fictitious scenario designed to test the ability of Stratcom and its component forces to deter a military attack against the US. Hundreds of military personnel are involved. Furthermore, there may be another important facet to Global Guardian. A 1998 Defense Department newsletter reported that for several years Stratcom had been incorporating a computer network attack (CNA) into Global Guardian. The attack involved Stratcom “red team” members and other organizations acting as enemy agents, and included attempts to penetrate the Command using the Internet and a “bad” insider who had access to a key command and control system. Magicians perform their misdirection and sleight of hand to baffle and amuse their audience. The Joint Chiefs of Staff have defined psychological operations (PSYOPS) as those that: " include psychological warfare and, in addition, encompass those political, military, economic and ideological actions planned and conducted to create in neutral or friendly foreign groups the emotions, attitudes, or behavior to support achievement of national objectives. " Another proposal " develops the concept of 'strategic psychological operations' as aimed at influencing and shaping decision-makers' power to govern or control their followers. " PSYOPS are sleight of mind. PSYOPS are not designed to baffle and amuse. PSYOPS are designed to create tension among different groups; enhance dislike and discord; and erode friendship and harmony. Misdirection and deception are PSYOP strategies for achieving these objectives.

Download site: Sieclator is a free-to-use, fifteen-digit display, scientific calculator program which includes most of the functions incorporated in electronic calculators, plus a few additional features. Sieclator now presents five major operating modes. Normal mode incorporates elementary arithmetic operations, trigonometric sine, cosine, tangent functions and transcendentals sinh, cosh, tanh, log10, loge plus inverses of these functions. Statistical mode computes sample standard deviation and population standard deviation. Fit mode performs least squares polynomial curve fitting to produce coefficients of fit for given data. - Country information has been updated as of 30 August, 2005. - There have been some significant changes to the latest edition of The World Factbook. Recent confirmation that the United Kingdom Government administers the Sovereign Base Areas of Akrotiri and Dhekelia on Cyprus as dependencies (and not as lease areas like the US Guantanamo Bay Naval Station in Cuba) has required a changing of their status and their addition to the Factbook as new entities. In addition, the European Union has been included as an "Other" entity at the end of the listing. The European Union continues to accrue more nation-like characteristics for itself and so a separate listing was deemed appropriate. A fuller explanation may be found under the European Union Preliminary statement. - Along with the new entities and the regular information updates, The World Factbook now also features six new fields. In the People category, a Major infectious diseases field has been added for countries deemed to pose a higher degree of risk for travelers. In the Economy category, entries have been added for Current account balance, Investment (gross fixed), Public debt, and Reserves of foreign exchange and gold. The Transnational issues category has a new Refugees and internally displaced persons entry. - Revision of some individual country maps, first introduced in the 2001 edition, is continued in this edition. Several regional maps have also been updated to reflect boundary changes and place name spelling changes.
